Tinnitus Evaluation and Management

Tinnitus is the term for the perception of sound when no external sound is present. It is often referred to as “ringing in the ears,” although some people hear hissing, roaring, whistling, chirping, or clicking. Tinnitus can be intermittent or constant, with single or multiple tones. Its’ perceived volume can range from very soft to extremely loud.

Our audiologists extensively evaluate the auditory systems for both ears and thoroughly explain the test results to allow our patients to better understand the cause of their phantom perception of sound (tinnitus).  The audiologist will attempt to identify what is believed to be the root site of their tinnitus and can further explain other areas of the brain that may become involved in the negative reactions to their tinnitus.  More than 50 million Americans suffer from tinnitus and most believe there is nothing that can be done about it. An audiologist at Microtone can help by using soothing sound therapy to disrupt the tinnitus sensation and stimulate the auditory centers of the brain and engaging the autonomic nervous system in a highly effective effort to desensitize the tinnitus symptoms.
